This Privacy Policy explains how SimpleFinances (“SimpleFinances,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you use our website at simplefinances.co and related services (collectively, the “Service”).

01Overview

SimpleFinances helps you track and understand your personal finances. We take the privacy of your financial information seriously. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal or financial data, and we use it only to provide and improve the Service. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Policy.

02Information We Collect

Information you provide

When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password. If you contact us, we collect the information you choose to share.

Financial information

If you connect a bank or financial account, we use Plaid Inc. (“Plaid”) to securely retrieve account and transaction information, such as account names, balances, and transaction history. We access this data on a read-only basis. Plaid’s handling of your data is governed by Plaid’s own privacy policy.

Payment information

Subscription payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. (“Stripe”). Stripe collects and processes your payment details directly. We do not store full payment card numbers on our servers; we retain only limited information such as your subscription status and plan.

Information collected automatically

When you use the Service, we and our analytics and advertising providers may automatically collect technical information such as your IP address, device and browser type, pages viewed, and interactions with the Service, using cookies and similar technologies (see “Cookies and Tracking” below).

03How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Service;
  • Authenticate you, secure your account, and process your subscription;
  • Display your financial data and generate insights, summaries, and budgeting features for you;
  • Respond to your requests and provide customer support;
  • Monitor, analyze, and improve the performance and security of the Service; and
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.

04How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal or financial data. We share information only in the limited circumstances below:

  • Service providers. With vendors who process data on our behalf to operate the Service, including Plaid (bank connections), Stripe (payments), Google Firebase (authentication and hosting), and analytics/advertising providers. These providers may use your information only to perform services for us.
  • Legal requirements. When required to comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request.
  • Protection of rights. To enforce our terms, protect the security of the Service, or protect the rights, property, or safety of SimpleFinances, our users, or others.
  • Business transfers. In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
  • With your consent. When you direct us to share your information.

05Cookies and Tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and understand how the Service is used. We also use third-party tools, including Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager, and the Meta (Facebook) Pixel, to measure and improve our marketing and the performance of the Service. These providers may set their own cookies. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling some cookies may affect how the Service functions.

06Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. We may retain certain information after you close your account where necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, and enforce our agreements. When information is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it.

07How We Protect Your Information

We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your data, including encryption of sensitive fields at rest using AES-256, hashing of passwords so they are never stored in readable form, encrypted transmission over SSL/TLS, and HTTP security headers that help guard against common web attacks. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and continually improve our practices.

08Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can:

  • Access and update your account information at any time;
  • Disconnect a linked bank account through your bank or by contacting us;
  • Request a copy or deletion of your personal data by emailing us; and
  • Close your account, which removes your access to the Service.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond consistent with applicable law. We do not sell personal information, and we do not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

09Third-Party Services

The Service relies on trusted third parties (including Plaid, Stripe, and Google), each of which maintains its own privacy practices. We encourage you to review their policies. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of websites or services we do not operate.

10Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
